An innovative ICT project - Programmare è un gioco da ragazze

Oct 6, 2022 | News, Orienta

In the ICT sector, companies are struggling to find candidates who meet their needs.
In recent years, demand has risen significantly due to the high number of open positions in technology and IT. Unfortunately, the number of people available in the market falls short of what companies require.
The reason is quite simple. To adopt a modern and progressive approach, many companies are undergoing a digital transformation and implementing new capabilities within their organizations. But this evolution can only be possible if there are experts working in these new IT fields. What companies are looking for is a new team of specialists in cybersecurity, programming, AI, blockchain, and many other fields.
Despite high demand, there is a shortage of candidates.
With such a gap between supply and demand, what solution should be adopted?
Perhaps this is enough to broaden our perspective.

A solution to the problem

In 2022, Orienta’s technology and science division expanded and rebranded asOrienta Digital. The subsidiary operates in the Italian technology market, providing support to businesses and talent. To address the challenges facing the ICT sector, Orienta Digital has introduced an innovative solution called "Programmare è un gioco da ragazze. "
This is a 240-hour educational program that serves as a foundation for programming. It is aimed at young women with degrees in the humanities who wish to expand their skills and seize new opportunities.

Why a course dedicated to women only?

Women account for only 17% of graduates in ICT studies, while men account for 36%. In the workforce, the proportion of women drops even further to 16%. These figures show that many talented women are not finding their place in technology and computer science education or careers. It is therefore essential to provide them with new opportunities to access these fields.

Why choose a hybrid profile, between programming and humanistic studies?

Students with a humanities background can analyze technological processes from a different perspective. This logical thinking, combined with strong language and communication skills, makes them highly valuable and attractive to companies, which can finally build a team of specialized and, above all, adaptable experts.

The Future of ICT

The goal of the course is to provide programming-focused education, help these women find their place in the industry, and contribute using their new skills.
Upon completing the online course, students can pursue a variety of career paths, such as Business Analyst, Solution Architect, Software Architect, Project Manager, or Database Administrator.
The road ahead may still be long and difficult, but this new approach to education can certainly pave the way for a new generation of versatile and skilled professionals.
